2009 - 2010 School Garden Grant Winners!
Dear Snails,
We received 11 outstanding applications and it was a very tough decision, but I am pleased to announce the three winners of the Slow Food First Coast school garden grants for Spring 2009:
- Joan Deloney, Julington Creek Elementary School
- Kristen Meek, Otis Mason Elementary School
- Mike Mitchell, Director of the OUR Center in Hastings
Each impressive awardee will receive a container garden kit, heritage seeds, organic soil, lesson plans and a guidebook, and a Slow Food First Coast plaque. In addition, this Sunday they will attend a workshop with Master Gardeners to get their fingers dirty for the first time!
Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who applied and wanted to be a part of inspiring children to make healthier, more sustainable food choices. We are hoping to hold a fundraiser in the coming months to raise money for the Fall round of school garden grants, which is when it will be open again for applications.
Thank you for your support as we continue to celebrate 2010 as the Year of the Young Eater!
Richard
