A3 Farms - Adventures in Amateur Agriculture
Jim and Amy Warmke raise grass fed native Florida sheep on some 60 acres of fine pastureland in Melrose Florida. Their current herd of three rams and 100 ewes is totally grass fed except for tangerine treats which the sheep are particularly fond of. They graze the acreage under the protection of two Great Pyrenees dogs. The Pyrenees dogs or capable and devoted, and have a reputation for being effective guards against predators. Calm and well mannered; these dogs are courageous while gentle and affectionate and are an important and essential part of the A3 farm.
Sharing the attention of Jim and Amy with the Pyrenees and the sheep are a flock of laying hens that provide eggs. The Warmkes have been building up the farm for some five years and own 20 acres of their farm while renting and bartering the rest from neighbors. These farmers encourage people to come for a visit and look over the operation. While there you will see, along with the sheep, chickens, and dogs; many beautiful bluebirds inhabiting the houses built by the Warmkes.
Lambing season begins in mid February. Harvest is from Thanksgiving to Easter. Customers may purchase an entire animal, half or quarter. Animals are delivered to a certified butcher shop for pickup - Crowder's in Green Cove Springs. One way to get a taste of these locally raised lambs is to call the farm and ask about their “sample pack" which comes complete with carefully farm tested recipes.
