First Coast CSA's and CSF's
Genung's Fish Camp
Our area's first Community Supported Fishery is the brainchild of Johnny Barnes of Genung's Fish Camp, and is designed to bring its members the freshest local seafood available at the fairest price possible. The CSF's name is Crescent Beach Fresh, and shares are available for $300. One share covers six months; so essentially, a member family/ household would be getting $50 worth of seafood per month. Some folks like to split shares, some folks like to throw seafood parties, and some folks like to freeze some of the bounty. How a share works is like this:
On the first Saturday of each month, pickup of the monthly share takes place at Genung's. Members need to bring a cooler with ice to take their seafood home. What is received depends upon seasonal availability, so products will vary. For example, April’s share consisted of 5# of shrimp, 4# flounder fillets, 1/4 bushel of oysters, and 3 dozen clams. That is definitely a fair return for the cost. Crabs will be coming available in future.
Johnny only works with local fishermen, shrimpers, clammers, crabbers and oyster folks who harvest in a sustainable and environmentally safe way. Everything will be coming out of the water close to pickup time. Please feel free to contact Johnny about your share or to make arrangements for a one month only pick up.
Genung's also has the expected bait 'n tackle supplies, rents out boat slips, and sponsors inshore and offshore charter fishing trips. The location is a wonderful site for groups to have oyster roasts, fish fries and other parties.
