St. Johns County Master Gardeners
The St. Johns County Master Gardners are dedicated volunteers who complete training with the University of Florida. Through their efforts both the arboretum and the specimen gardens at the County's Agricultural Center bloom through the seasons.
The James and Mary Shine Citrus Garden, maintained by Master Gardener Jimmy Shine, produces limequat, meyer lemon, kumquat, sour orange, calamondin, and more. Approximately 1300 jars of marmalade from this citrus garden are prepared on site by the members and can be purchased at the front desk of the Agricultural Center along with their herbal vinegars.
Golden jars of local honey are also available from the honey bees that make their home in the arboretum gardens. The flavor of the honey is tied to the seasonal cycle of flowering plants in bloom. Sign up for one of the workshops on bee keeping that are offered to the public. St Johns County Extension Service has many other educational opportunities at the Agricultural Center for beginning and experienced gardeners. Call the Center to find out what is being offered each month.
