The Bakery by OPUS 39
Chef Michael McMillan and his wife Christine have opened a sparkling new bakery in St. Augustine. This lovely European bakery and café can be reached by a brick walkway along the side of their very successful OPUS 39 restaurant.
This state of the art bakery is located on the second floor above the retail shop where you can eat indoors or out in the shaded courtyard. Pastry chef Schuyler Cook utilizes ingredients that are true to their source. Local and seasonal fruits, organic flours, and care go into beautifully displayed artisanal breads, desserts, and fine pastries. Homemade soups, gourmet sandwiches, and cheese plates round out a menu. Individually brewed and locally roasted organic coffee, freshly steeped tea, or a selection from The Wine Gallery at OPUS 39 can accompany your selection.
On the day of our visit, Chef McMillan had just finished making a batch of Kumquat preserves from a tree just outside the bakery door. Maybe you will find this served with your cheese and baguette?
