Organic and Natural Farms
Trinity Freedom Farm
Trinity Freedom Farm is located in NW St Johns County near Jacksonville and is owned by Trinity Baptist Church. The church uses the farm as part of its Trinity Rescue Mission program, which feeds 600 meals a day for mostly homeless men, women and children. Men from the rescue mission who choose to live on the farm gain valuable work experience, while transitioning from homelessness to supporting themselves.
The Freedom Farm was recently selected as grant recipient by the Sontag Foundation and is underway with its conversion into a fresh food center to feed thousands of hungry people. It has already been recognized as a certified member of the Organic Trade Association. As the farm expands to completion, Trinity Rescue Mission plans to be able to supply the produce needs for many of Northeast Florida’s area missions and food service providers at no cost to them.
Trinity Rescue Mission envisions the Freedom Farm as a model for other organizations to embrace. Men who have been living on the streets are responsible for growing and harvesting the crops, gaining valuable job skill training in the organic farming industry. The availability of locally-grown produce to those who need it and the organizations that can distribute it helps both the homeless and the hungry in Northeast Florida.
